Hout Bay Music Project (HBMP)

Bio

Currently operating from an informal timber structure in Hout Bay Village, the Hout Bay Music Project was initiated by local resident Leanne Dollman in 2003 and provides tuition in a range of musical instruments to underprivileged children from the Imizamo Yethu township.

The Hout Bay Music Project Trust strives to: consistently achieve teaching and performance standards of the highest level; secure a dedicated, permanent teaching and performance venue; become sustainable through ongoing income from the children's performances, the kind support of the general public, and financial commitment from sponsors and donors; contribute to meaningful community development in Hout Bay and to extend our network throughout the Western Cape; continue with national and international touring and grow the number of performance opportunities; identify children with a special aptitude for music as young as the nursery school age group; foster 'multipliers' – HBMP graduates - to take leadership roles within the project; and always provide a safe, fun, creative platform for music discovery, artistic expression, and life skills learning.

The Project’s musicians have performed at a number of high-profile events, including the G20 Summit, the World Bank Annual Parliamentary Conference and at concerts in Holland and Austria.
