Mbunda Liyoyelo

Mbunda Liyoyelo is one of the three Mbunda Traditional Ceremonies celebrated every year in September in Kabompo district, Zambia. At the Palace of Chief Chiyengele Chingumbe II at Kayombo in Kabompo District of North Western Province of Zambia, Mbunda Speaking people come together to praise God their creator for giving them a good crop. One of the most prominent features of at this ceremony is the demonstration of the Mbunda-Choke War which happened centuries ago in Mbundaland, now part of Angola. The event showcases the Mbunda makishi masquerade, wood carvings, a variety of Mbunda traditional foods and dances.
