DJ Chopa

Thabo Mfazo, better known as Chopa or Dj Chopa when He performs on stage or on radio. Been in love with Electronic Dance Music (EDM) since he discovered it in 2010 and was eager to learn more and discover more about this genre of music which was very scarce in Botswana with only a handful of Dj’s and producers. The love and passion intensively grew as he got to discover, follow local EDM Dj’s, a local EDM radio show and attending events with one or two Dj’s playing Electronic Dance Music.

The love and passion for Dj’ing came about through the discovery of a well renowned Electronic Dance Music festival in 2012, Tomorrowland, where he got inspired by the ability of Dj’s to make massive crowds dance and create memories through this music. Eager to learn more about Dj’ing, Chopa started teaching himself how to become a Dj by blending and mixing tracks using virtual computer software which simulated real Dj equipment.

This led to discovery of various subgenres under Electronic Dance Music genre which included; soothing and relaxing sounds of Tropical House to energetic lengthy techno-influenced build-ups and powerful and driving electro-style drops of Dance, Progressive House and Big Room just to name a few.

In 2016, Chopa began varsity and merged both his love for Dj’ing and school life. He further mastered this craft until he enrolled at Next Best Dj Academy in 2018, a professional and licensed Dj School, where he got exposed to real Dj’ing equipment and continued to nurture his skills and talent behind the decks.

Still in 2018, he got his first mix aired on the local radio station, Yarona FM, boosting his Dj career as he landed gigs at various night clubs like Chez Nicholas, Linga Longa Restaurant and events. Chopa was motivated and went on to become a resident at Linga Longa restaurant, Infinity Lounge (Old Boulevard) in Phakalane and a regular at Yarona Fm.

Due to the residency, Chopa learned and gained more skill in being a much more versatile Dj, being able to play other various music genres;
Electronic Dance Music (EDM; Tropical House, House, Future House, Future Bass, Bass House, Progressive House, Dance, Psy-Trance, Big Room, Chillstep, Groove House)
House (Deep House, Deep Tech, Soulful House, Afro House, Afro Tech and the well renowned Amapiano which he specializes in).
