Gareth Wilson
Bio
Gareth Wilson is currently an A&R and business development lead for Virgin Music South Africa. In this role, he oversees a diverse range of artists across the African continent, with a special focus on the SADEC region. His passion for discovering incredible talent drives him to travel into Africa, connect with musicians, and create opportunities that can propel their careers.
Gareth’s journey in the music world began as a musician with the South African rock band Southern Gypsey Queen, where he toured extensively and honed his understanding of the industry. He transitioned to a booking agent role with Southern Pulse, collaborating with notable acts like BCUC, Shadowclub, and Tidal Waves. His expertise flourished during nearly a decade as the talent buyer for festival promoters Hilltoplive, known for the iconic Oppikoppi Festival, and for introducing numerous international artists to South African audiences.
In addition to his behind-the-scenes work, Gareth has owned live music venues, including the popular Good Luck Bar in Johannesburg, further deepening his connection to the live music scene. In late 2020, he began consulting for Electromode Ingrooves, which eventually became Virgin Music Group South Africa.
