Geesoul & The Rockstarz is a music outfit from South Africa.
Better known by “Geesoul” Gift Nkomo is a saxophonist; (soprano; alto; tenor; baritone), songwriter, flautist, piano and indigenous percussive instruments player, who obtains a Diploma in Jazz Theory and Popular Music.
In 2014 He worked with the Noorderpoort college in Groningen, Amsterdam (Neththerlands) for the Jarprys tour which was in Amsterdam, where he collaborated with artists/bands from Netherlands; Marloes Pieksma, OES, Laila Lardhasse, Studio Boterdiep,The Frisbees and the Noorderpoort college for a collaboration called; Jarprys ( S.A meets Holland).
During his tour in Europe, he performed at venues such as ; The Martini Plaza, Hotel Euroborgh, The Red light district, Studio Boterdiep etc…
Gift “Geesoul’ Nkomo recorded songs for the S.A meets Holland project with; Tom Van Der Neut (BASS), Kevin Addens (DRUMS), Ruben Van Hemmel (Guitar & Vocals), Dan Gombert (PIANO), Lehlohonolo Mofokeng (Trumpet), Laila Larhdasse( Vocals & Guitar) and Jeroen Van Olphen, a Music lecturer at the Noorderpoort college of Music in Amsterdam.
After representing South Africa in the Netherlands he landed on the African soil of eSwatini where he was featured as an opening act for the MTN Joyous Celebration Gospel concert in Mbabane, eSwatini(Swaziland). Where he toured with eSwatini based guitarist, singer and performer Mncedisi Dlamini, For about 3 Months.
In 2016, he went on a Durban tour with The Sun Xa Experiment(an 8 piece band from Soweto) for the JAM FOR PEACE tour where they did a musical tribute to the legendary NDIKHO XABA at THE CENTRE FOR JAZZ (University of Kwa Zulu Natal), in partnership with KZN MUSIC IMBIZO.
The tour included venues such as; Moses Mabhida stadium, The University of Kwa Zulu Natal (Howard College), The chairmans, Khaya Records, The Jazzy Rainbow, Kwantu Village, Smoking Dragon Festival,The Winston pub, Habesha café, Zakifo festival, Green Camp Gallery project, EZIGESHENI (home for the old aged in Lamontville),Yosis etc..
He also graced the stages such as; The Soweto theatre... with the SUN XA EXPERIMENT and recorded a tribute song; Shwabada” dedicated to the late Ndikho Xaba (which he performed live for him at his tribute).
In 2017 he joined the award winning South African rock band; BLK JKS, who have been touring countries such as USA, Australia, Germany, Colombia , France,Italy, Lesotho and Mozambique etc...
They recorded a tribute song; The Boy’s Doin’ IT dedicated to the late South African trumpeter; Dr. HUGH MASEKELA with his son (Alekesam)and nephew (Selema Writes).
He has performed with the BLK JKS across the African continent performing at festivals and events such as; AFROPUNK(Joburg 2017), ENDLESS DAZE FESTIVAL, KONJO FESTIVAL(CAPE TOWN), , CCFM (with the FRENCH ALIENCE MOZAMBIQUE), THE TENNIS CLUB, OPPIKOPPI FESTIVAL, BASHA UHURU FREEDOM FEST etc…
In 2020 BLK JKS released an album called ABANTU/BEFORE HUMANS with Geesoul playing the saxophones and backing vocals.
