Gemma Griffiths
Bio
Gemma Griffiths is an Afropop artist from Zimbabwe.
Griffiths' collaboration with Zimbabwean dancehall artist Winky D put her on the spotlight. Titled 'MuGarden', was on number 1 on the BBC Afrobeats charts shortly after it’s release.
Griffiths has the stage with such artists as Oliver Mtukudzi, Ammara Brown, Winky D, Jah Prayzah, Tamy Moyo and UK Grammy Award winner Joss Stone. Her sound is best described as acoustic soul and is visible on her first EP ‘My Town’. The EP unravels layers of Gemma’s musical identity.
Her introspective writing draws her range of musical influences from international artists such as Amy Winehouse and Lianne La Havas, to the Afrojazz greats Andy Brown, Oliver Mutukudzi and Hugh Masekela. This diverse dynamic of guidance has set her apart as an artist before her time and beyond her years.
