Iyana

Iyana is a Zimbabwe-based musical act founded by virtuoso guitarist and producer Trustworth Samende and supreme vocalist Qeqeshiwe Mntambo.

The two artists first got together just to experiment with old traditional material and new approaches but the strength of the ideas convinced them to turn this encounter into a long term project.

Their music is a fresh and rich fusion of Ndebele traditional music with broad Southern, West and East African influences. The act just completed recording an 11 track debut album titled Iyana. The songs on the album touch on issues affecting present-day Southern Zimbabwean communities; like marriage, inheritance, love, depression, economic pressures and xenophobia among others.
