Bio
Kapfupi was born Freddy Manjalima to a Malawian father Joseph Manjlima. His father wanted him to follow his footsteps of becoming a tailor. He is a popular musician-cum-comedian who rose to fame through drama. He has produced sidesplitting series dramas such 'Notorious Kapfupi' and 'What goes around comes around'. He attended Raymondale Primary Domboramwari Secondary schools. His interest in drama began when he was in Grade Four. He dropped out of high school while doing Form 2. He began doing menial jobs such acting, sewing, gardener and herding cattle at Mara Farm in Harare's Ruwa suburb. Shortly afterwards, he descended Harare’s First Street and began performing comedian stunts. The move gained him fame.
In 1998, he established True Vision Drama Club together with Jeffrey Chikwesere, popularly known as Aphiri. The organization saw him recording a comic-drama series 'Magariro'. The series was screened on local television. The duo two parted ways and Kapfupi began concertrating on live music. This was followed by the formation of Orchestra Ndoozvo band. In 2010 he released a song 'Mai Nga'. The track was well-received and its video was voted number one on Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation TV's top 100. In 2005, he recorded his debut album 'Uchakanga Waya'. This was followed the 'Mai Nga' (2010) album. The album carried the popular a track called ‘Juice Card’. In 2013, he made his maiden journey to London together with his fellow comedian 'Marabha' (Charles Merisi). He was invited to entertain revelers by Philip Chiyangwa's daughter at the lauch of a charity organization called Help Us Help Ourselves (HUHO) and the launch of her book ‘Situation is Never Destiny’.
In 2010, his song 'Mai Nga' won the Song of the Year category at the National Arts Merit Awards. In 2015, they were reports that he was failing to release his album due to financial constraints. He however professed ignorance on the matter citing that it was his detractors that were peddling such lies. He reportedly said that he had willingly decided to hold on to his forthcoming album until March. In 2013, one of his long-serving members Blessing ‘Bonjisi’ Vingirai died after a short illness.
