Mabeleng Moholo
Bio
Mabeleng Moholo is a South African musician who honed his skills at the Madimba Institute of African Music and the Funda Centre in Soweto. He furthered his education with a Diploma in Ethnomusicology from the Zimbabwe College of Music, where he studied Mbira Dzavadzimu, Marimba, Dance, Field Research, Theory, and Percussion.
Moholo has collaborated with numerous renowned artists, including Simphiwe Dana, Gloria Bosman, Zonke, Nduduzo Makhathini, and Pops Mohamed. His impressive resume also includes performances in the Lion King and Gumboots musicals.
In 1994, Moholo participated in the historic 100 Drummers event celebrating Nelson Mandela's presidency. He founded Bele's Production and Services (Pty) Ltd in 2013, a company specialising in manufacturing and repairing indigenous instruments, workshops, and performances.
Moholo's solo performance, 'Medumo Ya Africa', earned him funding from ConcertsSA in 2015. He subsequently toured Zimbabwe, Lesotho, and South Africa, conducting music workshops at the Soweto Theatre and various community centres.
Between 2019 and 2020, Moholo received funding from the National Arts Council to introduce indigenous instruments to primary schools in Gauteng, North West, and the Free State through his project, Medumo Ya Africa Indigenous Music in Schools.
