Bio
Melikhaya May, a South African Gospel artist hailing from the small town of Cala in the rural village of Sifonondile, began his singing career at the young age of 12. Gifted with a beautiful and harmonious voice, he led and conducted his church choir, leading them to win various church singing competitions.
In later years, Melikhaya crossed paths with Gospel artists Mr. Athenkosi Ngentu and Xolisile Ndziweni. He contributed as a backing vocalist to Xolisile Ndziweni’s “uJesu Uyaphila” album between 2017 and 2019. Inspired by his experiences, Melikhaya embarked on his debut album titled “Ebekhon’ uThixo,” released in May 2019. The album, consisting of 12 tracks, featured collaborative efforts with notable figures such as producer Mr. Soso Mdingi, co-producer Mr. Xolisile Ndziweni, programmer Siyamamnkela Mtshana Mbangi, and backing vocalists Aphiwe Mdingi, Zodwa Hloyi, and Thembinkosi Bavuma.
Notably, the title track, “Ebekhon’ uThixo,” composed by Xolisile Ndziweni, earned Melikhaya May the Best Song of the Year award at the Eastern Cape Music Awards (ECMAS) in 2019. The album gained recognition on reputable radio stations like UMhlobo Wenene FM, Vukani Community Radio, and Zibonele FM.
