Ncilashe

Vusumzi Msengane, widely known as “Ncilashe,” is a South African singer, performer, and Igqirha (traditional healer) whose powerful voice and cultural influence have touched many. Born and raised in the township of Zwide in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape, Ncilashe’s musical journey began at a young age, where he discovered his vocal talent through participation in local and school choirs.

In 2014, Ncilashe embraced his spiritual calling, responding to ubizo and connecting with his ancestral heritage. This spiritual journey deepened his connection to his voice, particularly through the practice of umombelo/ukombela (traditional singing). His work is inspired by renowned South African artists such as Thandiswa Mazwai, Simphiwe Dana, Nathi Mankayi, and Ami Faku, who have shaped his artistry and vision.

In 2022, Ncilashe began sharing videos of himself performing sombela entlombeni on TikTok. The videos gained traction, with followers encouraging him to record an album—a groundbreaking step for a traditional healer. Despite initial hesitation, Ncilashe embraced the idea, marking a significant moment in his career and in South African music.

His debut album, UMNTU AKALAHLWA, was born out of this journey. The album has allowed Ncilashe to bring together his musical talent and spiritual calling, creating a unique voice that resonates with audiences and highlights the richness of South African culture.
