Bio
Real name Lucy Gondwe, NyaGo is an Afro-spiritual singer from Phoka (Rumphi), in the Northern region of Malawi. Her musical journey began with singing in church concerts, which soon inspired her to delve into a career in afro-music. Through this journey of self-discovery, from gospel to afro-pop, afro-spiritual music and beyond, NyaGo was born.
She has evolved artistically over the years, drawing from the enchanting rhythms and melodies of the Malawian healing tradition of Vimbuza, interspersed with elements of jazz, soul, ethno and African folk music.
She is credited for her live performances and collaborations with high profile institutions including the State house, Plan international, GIZ, International Justice Mission, Takulandirani (Malawi International Tourism Expo 2023), as well as with various government ministries and the United States Embassy in Malawi in an effort at reviving Malawian culture and empowering the disenfranchised in local communities across the world.
With her deep, lustrous voice and enchanting melodies, NyaGo spreads a message of hope, peace, resilience and love for the disenfranchised who are often forgotten. Hers is the voice of a strong and determined young woman who has lived through and overcome unspeakable tragedies and, who is determined to have a positive impact on the lives of others.
