Sandra Horta
Bio
Sandra Horta is a Cape Verdean singer and songwriter who interprets themes from her country with influences from world musical genres: mornas, funanás and batuques are colored with jazz, blues, afrobeat, flamenco or fado, recreating a universe of her own, based on her roots but open to the world.
Sandra was born in Cape Verde and began her musical journey as a child. She later traveled to Portugal where she graduated in Computer Engineering and also began studying singing and jazz. She started her professional career by the hands of Tito Paris, participated in several projects in theater, fashion and dance and in concerts with renowned artists in Cape Verde, Portugal, Spain, France and Angola.
After releasing singles with capeverdean but also international producers such as the Senegalese Habib Faye (bassist and musical director of Youssou Ndour) and the Portuguese Diogo Clemente (producer of the fado singer Mariza), she released her first EP, “Primavera”, in 2022, with songs by Mário Lúcio and Orlando Pantera, produced by Tito Paris and with the participation of a Portuguese String Orchestra. In that year, she was selected to the Atlantic Music Expo where she presented the EP.
Her work with renowned producers from different continents and approaching areas like climate change, children education or women’s rights was twice nominated for the Cabo Verde Music Awards and granted her a distinction from the Government of Cape Verde, UNICEF and UNFPA for her work on behalf of children.
This was followed by her own projects to promote capeverdean artists and cultural sites of Cape Verde, “Shintim Cabo Verde”, and the “Art at the service of the environment” project which brought together various artistic disciplines on stage in favour of the cause of the planet, extending, off stage, to environmental actions in schools.
In addition to her own concerts and projects, Sandra Horta carries out projects in partnership with public and private institutions aligned with the same values, having been the image and author of the official theme of their campaigns. Her latest projects were the campaign against sexual harassment of children in partnership with a children governmental institution, and a podcast and television program H2Orta, exploring community and environmental issues, revealing the artist's communication skills.
Sandra sings about women, children, love, her islands, the environment, migrations and encourages the union of people and the love to one another through music.
Graduated in Computer Engineering, fluent in english, french and portuguese, Sandra Horta has recently decided to dedicate herself exclusively to music and is currently preparing her first album.
