Sankoum Cissokho
Bio
Sankoum Cissokho, born in Dakar, Senegal, comes from an illustrious family of griots, guardians of the musical and oral tradition in West Africa. Grandson of the legendary kora player Soundioulou Cissokho, he was introduced to this emblematic instrument at an early age by his father, Bacary Cissokho. Since childhood, Sankoum has been immersed in a rich musical tradition that he has perpetuated and enriched over the years.
With his exceptional mastery of the kora, Sankoum combines technique, sensitivity and creativity. His repertoire crosses the boundaries between tradition and modernity, blending ancestral melodies with contemporary compositions. His playing is characterised by a deep expressiveness, combining finesse and virtuosity.
Having settled in Switzerland several years ago, Sankoum is actively involved in the local music scene, collaborating with a variety of artists and performing regularly in concert. He has also toured Europe and Asia, sharing his music with an international audience.
Throughout his career, Sankoum Cissokho has shared the stage with such iconic figures as Salif Keita, Femi Kuti, Tiken Jah Fakoly, Orchestra Baobab, Xalam II and the Geneva Camerata, testifying to his talent and artistic openness.
