YA TATCHI

Bio

Yatatchi was born Patrick Renaud Tatih in Pointe-Noire, the economic

center of the Republic of Congo.

This is why he is also known as Muan

Ndjindji, which means «Son of Pointe-Noire» in Vili, the local language.

In Pointe-Noire, his city by the sea, Yatatchi begins to play the trumpet with

9 years and soon hones his talent to perfection as principal soloist of the

Salvation Army brass band. He later plays in jazz orchestras in cabarets and

night clubs.

He is the first Congolese trumpeter with a long international

solo career on the international scene with many tours, shows and produc-

tions, for which he has received numerous awards and prizes for his music.

Yatatchi organizes and manages festivals such as the international «La Fête à Ndjindji », an international musical festival held in Pointe-Noire.

Trumpet player, singer and songwriter, composer as well as phonographic

and scenic producer, Yatatchi collaborates with other international musi-

cians, such as the Nigerian saxophonist Orlando Julius for his album Muan

Ndjindji, or Majid Bekkas, the Moroccan multi-instrumentalist for African

Jazz’n Bar.

In Basel, Switzerland, he records his third album Tchilumbu Tchi

Keli and collaborates with the Swiss saxophonist Jopo Poffet amongst

others. Yatatchi dedicates a special song to Basel, the city that welcomed

him, and celebrated 20 years on the musical scene at the city’s prestigious

venue, the Stadt Casino.

Fostering the cultural and musical collaboration of

Switzerland and Africa, he organizes the Afrosu Event festival in Basel.

Lorsqu’on est content / When you are happy, his fourth album, is an original and colorful musical mix, fusing African, Latino and Jazz elements, which

he recorded in Basel, Switzerland and Paris, France. Its multiculturality is

also reflected in the different languages of the lyrics, i.e., French, German,

Vili and Lingala.
