SA: 2020 ACT Awards announce date and venue
The 2020 edition of the Arts & Culture Trust (ACT) Awards will be held at River Meadow Manor, in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 21 February.
The ceremony will recognise contributions in music, arts advocacy, dance, literature, theatre and the visual arts.
The awards are divided into two segments: the Lifetime Achievement Awards and the ImpACT Awards for young professionals, with the former honouring legends in the sector and the latter recognising young artists who have promising careers.
“A salient element of the ACT Awards is the presentation of Lifetime Achievement Awards,” ACT said.
“These prestigious awards honour arts professionals whose lifelong achievements have contributed significantly to the enrichment of cultural life in South Africa and whose extraordinary careers have had a profound and lasting impact on arts, culture and creativity.”
The ACT Awards were introduced 21 years ago and have honoured such artists as Madosini Mpahleni, Esther Mahlangu, Miriam Makeba, Gibson Kente, David Goldblatt, the Field Band Foundation and Moving Into Dance Mophatong.
“This year promises to build on the esteem of the ACT Awards, with ACT having received outstanding public recommendations for award recipients at the end of 2019,” the trust said.
ACT has partnered with the City of Johannesburg, the Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation, the Southern African Music Rights Organisation, Nedbank and Sun International to provide funding for the sustainable development and growth of arts, culture and heritage in South Africa, ACT said.
