Bio
Malang Touray, best known by his stage name Jalex is a Gambian Afromanding artist. He draws his music aspirations from his grandfather, a traditional griot who encouraged him to startup his career in Afromanding. In 1997, he released his debut single entitled ‘Africa Kairo’. The song talks about conflicts in Africa and ways to solve them. In 1999, he joined a group called Dextrous Squad. The group disbanded in 2000 prompting Jalex to pursue a solo career in 2001. He released a single titled ‘Kana Kideh’.
In 2006, he had an encounter with Gary Jones, a British tourist who began managing and promoting his music in The Gambia and the U.K. In 2007, he released his debut album entitled ‘Soma Alfaa’
In 2008, his single titled ‘Nmala Moola Bi’ won the Best Single award at the Smiling Coast Rhythm held at West Coast Radio. In 2009, he toured the U.K. with Gary they recorded and shot a video of a single called ‘Dunya’.
While in the U.K. he released a single entitled ‘Be Yourself’. The song was included in the Hi-Tech Music Production in the U.K. He returned home and released a second album entitled ‘Rouchi’ in 2012. Some of his popular songs are ‘Dunya’, ‘Nakebba’, ‘Musolu’ and ‘Kana Kideh’.
