Bio
Shona (also known as Boma) is a Nigerian creative with various expressions of art. She’s a rapper, break-dancer and multi-instrumentalist. She is a reformer and a catalyst; using her music and art to address topics and ignite change. Growing up, she listened to the likes of Tupac, Biggie, Puff Daddy, the Fugees, Eminem, Kanye West; to mention a few. These rappers influenced her approach to culture. She also loves alternative rock- also listened to a lot of Blink 182, Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit - which sparked her interest in drums and guitar.
Her Debut single titled “HeForShe” (available on all music platforms) speaks about the role men play in gender equity, the hook of the song raises awareness on how much men of all ages are needed to change the narrative of what “men” or “women” are to do, especially from childhood; in the family - calling on men to give women “wings”, which represents equity. Shona is working on her EP, release dates yet to be announced.
She is a top finalist on Voice to Represent (Voice2Rep) 2020 and a brand ambassador. Voice2Rep is a first of its kind music competition searching for top first-time WaZoBia-Pidgin English music artists who support greater representation, participation and accountability across Nigeria. It gives these rising stars a platform to make their voices heard, connect with socially-conscious leaders in the music industry, and build the skills they need to shape the future of the country through music. #Voice2Rep is run by Accountability Lab Nigeria in partnership with the Dutch Embassy Chocolate City – one of the largest music platforms and entertainment companies on the African continent.
