Dylan Tabisher
Bio
Dylan Tabisher is one of South Africa’s leading young marimba soloists who has performed to critical acclaim both nationally and internationally.
Born in Cape Town, Dylan started percussion in 2002 with Suzette Brits at the Hugo Lambrechts Music Centre. Since then he has completed his BMus and BMus (Hons) and MMus degrees with CumLaude at Stellenbosch University.
In 2012 Dylan was selected with his duo partner, Cherilee Adams (US Percussion Duo) as the overall winners of the ATKV Muziq Competition. This was the first time in the competitions history that an ensemble received the overall prize. In that year he was also selected as a semi-finalist at the 6th World Marimba Competition in Stuttgart, Germany.
In 2013 Dylan was chosen as the overall winner of the FMR Music Competition. In July that year the US Percussion Duo (now, Duo Infinite) were selected as semi-finalists at the Universal Marimba Competition in Sint-Truiden, Belgium.
Since 2014, Dylan has toured internationally as a member of the “No Borders Orchestra” performing an adaptation of Verdi’s Macbeth by Brett Bailey. They have performed at some of the most prestigious festivals and venues in the world including Teatro Cologne (Buenos Aires, Argentina), The Barbican (London, England) and recently, The Megaron (Athens, Greece).
In 2015 Dylan travelled extensively, touring to New Zealand, England, South Korea, Australia, Germany and Argentina with the Macbeth opera production. He was also chosen as the category prize winner at the ATKV Muziq Competition and won the overall 3rd prize.
In 2016, he was selected as one of the six semi-finalists to participate in the SAMRO Overseas Scholarship Competition. This is the second time he was selected as a semi-finalist for this competition. The first time was in 2012 where he received the Bonhams Award as well as the Merit Award. This time however, he progressed to the final round and was selected as the overall winner of the Western Art Music Category. He also received the prize for the best performance of a prescribed South African Work.
In September 2016 he toured to the USA and France where he performed Brett Bailey’s Macbeth together with musicians from The Philadelphia Orchestra as well as No Borders Orchestra and in January 2017 they toured to Vancouver performing with musicians from the Vancouver Opera House.
In January 2017, he was made an official member of the “No Borders Orchestra” consisting of musicians from the ex-Yugoslavian region. This is an exciting new orchestra who, in 2015, released a CD with Deutsche Grammophon entitled “The Opening.”
Dylan is an active performer and has appeared as a soloist with the Cape Town Philharmonic, KwaZulu –Natal Philharmonic and Stellenbosch University Symphony Orchestra’s.
