Elaine tops list of most streamed women on Apple Music SA

The announcement was made in celebration of Women’s Month in South Africa and seeks to shine a spotlight on female artists who have dominated the charts.

The ‘When We’re Alone’ hitmaker topped all three categories namely: Top Mzansi Female Artists of 2020, Top Mzansi Female Albums of 2020 and Top Mzansi Female Singles of 2020. Additionally, the songs off her debut EP Elements took seven spots on the Top Mzansi Female Singles of 2020. Other songs on the list include singles from BET Award-winning vocalist Sha Sha, DJ Zinhle and Bucy Radebe.

Other notable features on Apple Music’s Top Mzansi Female Artists include Lebo Sekgobela and Ami Faku. Sekgobela is also the only singer who features twice on Top Mzansi Female Albums with her anthemic releases Restored (Live) and Hymns & Worship (Live).

“My EP, Elements, means so much to me,” 21-year-old Elaine said. “I gave it all my love and passion and to receive it tenfold from those who love and appreciate me and my music, is the greatest gift I could ever ask for.”

In November 2019, she became the first independent female artist in the country to reach No 1 on the Apple Music Album Charts with Elements. “I am grateful, humbled and excited for the future,” she said. “Thank you to every shining star that has been streaming my project, and thank you Apple Music for your love and constant support.”
