Call for applications: Africa regional representative for Artists at Risk Connection
Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) seeks a talented, energetic and highly organised regional representative in Africa.
ARC is a project of PEN America, a non-profit organisation working at the intersection of literature and human rights. The position is suitable for an individual who is already active in their artistic or human rights community and is interested in developing their regional network.
ARC is a support system for artists facing threats as a result of their creative expression. The organisation manages a co-ordination and information-sharing hub, which supports, unites and advances the work of organisations that assist artists at risk of persecution globally. Its mission is to improve access to resources for artists at risk, enhance connections among supporters of artistic freedom and raise awareness about artistic freedom challenges.
The successful candidate will grow and strengthen a dynamic regional network in Africa to ensure that ARC’s partners are diverse, representative and responsive in this region.
The regional representative will:
- Strengthen existing support for at-risk artists by connecting ARC to local human rights organisations and the arts community locally and regionally.
- Support ARC’s referral work locally and regionally by connecting artists in need with the local organisations that can support them.
- Identify new resources for artists at risk and initiating co-ordination and the sharing of information between organisations that support artists at risk in the region.
- Be a resource for the local cultural community, by sharing information, advice and networks that can help persecuted artists access regional resources.
- Support outreach and communications efforts relevant to the region.
Candidates must have the following requirements:
- At least five years of active experience in the human rights field in Africa.
- A diverse and established network in the human rights and art fields in Africa.
- Interest in building collaborations and connections with other countries in Africa.
- Relevant experience in creating collaborative opportunities.
- Fluent in English and French or Arabic.
- Experience in outreach and communications or project management is required.
