Kenya: Femi One appointed Monster Energy brand ambassador
Kenyan rapper Femi One has signed an ambassadorial deal with Monster Energy drink, making her the first African female artist to be associated with the brand. The news was made public in a statement by the company on 16 March.
The Monster Energy company was founded in 2002 and is headquartered in California. It is the highest-rated energy drink after Red Bull and is popularly known for its sponsorship of music, extreme sports and gaming.
“Now fueled by Monster Energy, we’ve formed a coalition to celebrate the release of Monster Energy Ultra, which is now available in Kenya,” a statement reads. “Fittingly, while many parts of the world celebrate Women’s History Month, we welcome Femi One as she takes to the stage to write her own chapter of history with Monster Energy.”
Femi One confirmed the news via her Twitter account: “A big win for Kenya, a big win for Africa and another win for the female rap game. You are looking at the first African female Monster Energy brand ambassador. Cheers to more wins.”
Femi One is signed the Kaka Empire label, which is owned by rapper King Kaka, who said: “I am one of the happiest people in the world. Today, we celebrate a win for Kaka Empire, a win for Kenya and a win for Femi One.”
The endorsement deal is deemed by industry watchers as a perfect fit, considering Femi One’s career success. The partnership is also expected to grow her audience internationally.
The 26-year-old MC is the second Kenyan rapper to sign a deal with Monster Energy after Khaligraph Jones was appointed brand ambassador in 2018.
Other African celebrities who have partnered with the brand in the past include Phyno and DJ Maphorisa, who were both named brand ambassadors in 2018 and 2020, respectively.
