Register to attend World IP Day discussion
The Creative Africa Nexus (CANEX) programme will host a virtual discussion titled Harnessing African Creative Intellectual Property to commemorate World Intellectual Property Day (World IP Day) on 26 April.
Organised annually by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), World IP Day aims to increase people’s awareness and understanding of intellectual property. The 2021 theme is, IP & SMEs: Taking Your Ideas to Market.
“Every business starts with an idea. Each of the millions of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that operate across the globe every day started with the idea that took shape in someone’s mind and made its way to market,” WIPO says.
The CANEX programme will feature discussions around the administration and enforcement of IP laws and harmonising their application at regional and continental levels. Rita Anwiri Chindah will moderate the panel discussion, which will feature Nothando Migogo, Outule Rapuleng, Paolo Lanteri, Mahama Ouedraogo and Angela Ndambuki.
More information on each panellist is available here.
“An element of critical importance for independent creatives and SMEs is access to intellectual property information, legal support and enforcement,” CANEX says. “Smaller creative companies and individual creatives are often unaware of their rights and the resources that are available to assist them in protecting those rights.”
Who can register?
The discussion targets all working creatives looking to understand and protect their IP rights, anyone in the legal, policy and implementation sectors of IP practice as well as financial institutions that are looking to finance the cultural and creative industry (CCI) sector.
Registration for the digital event is ongoing here.
