
Call for registration: Visual Arts Network of South Africa workshop
The Visual Arts Network of South Africa (VANSA) is calling on artists to register for its online Professional Skills Development Workshop Series from 10 to 14 May.

The online workshops are designed to provide critical skills to creatives in the sector to advance their careers and practices as a whole. The workshops will aim to continue VANSA’s focus and commitment to transformation and system change through access, opportunities and empowerment on an individual and community level.
All the workshops will be held from 12pm to 2pm and will cover the following topics:
Best Practice with Tokologo Mphaki: 10 May
- Proposal writing.
- Preparing and managing budgets.
- Invoicing and pricing.
- Contracts and agreements.
- Artists Rights (IP, copyright, artist resale rights and freedom of expression).
Pen to Paper with Khehla Makgato: 11 May
- Writing an artist biography.
- Writing an artist statement.
- Artist an artistic CV.
- Writing about your work.
- Professional communication.
Finance Guru with Gugulethu Mayisela: 12 May
- Financial intelligence and financial planning.
- Savings and Investments.
- Retirement planning – Pension fund/retirement annuity.
- Tax compliance.
- Funding your artistic practice.
Savvy Socials with Gcobisa Ndzimande: 13 May
- Social media.
- Online gallery.
- Branding.
- Selling online.
- Website.
The Artsy Hustler with Thato Mogotsi: 14 May
- Professional practice – Business and art.
- Conducting business and sales.
- Effective communications.
- Ways of working: galleries, collectives, independent.
- Adapting to business during COVID-19.
How to apply
Interested artists can register here and the first 50 participants per workshop will be assisted with data to participate in the online workshops.
The registration deadline is 7 May.
“We develop industry knowledge, resources, networks and projects that are concerned with realising new social, cultural and economic possibilities for contemporary art practice in the South African and wider African context,” VANSA said.
