Call for music: Songs needed for international movie
The producers of upcoming international film 3 Way Junction are calling on artists, composers and publishers from Africa to submit songs to be used in the movie.
The call-out is being made through Songroller, an online pitching platform that allows artists to submit their music to sync opportunities. The deadline for 3 Way Junction submissions is midnight, Wednesday 22 March.
The producers are looking for four songs that will be used in the following scenes: truck, bonfire, taxi and bar. In the first scene, for example, the main character hitches a ride through the desert, and music plays on the radio in the background.
All songs to be used in the scenes should suit the urban, kwaito-influenced, house, traditional, rock or hip hop genres, with each genre bearing a distinct African flavour. When submitting songs, artists should read each brief for specific details. In the truck brief, artists are encouraged to submit urban, traditional, rock or hip hop songs.
According to a press statement, “the songs need to be contemporary and local”.
“Something you would expect to hear in a taxi, in a bar, or if you turned on the radio in your car driving through Namibia today. A current African hit or sound-alike,” it reads.
3 Way Junction is Juergen Bollmeyer’s debut film starring Tom Sturridge (The Hollow Crown, Far From the Madding Crowd), Stacy Martin (Nymphomaniac Vol 1 & 2) and Tommy Flanagan (Sons Of Anarchy). It is set in Namibia and follows a London-based architect as he undergoes a rite of passage through the Namib Desert.
Licence fee per track is 7 000 South African rand ($550) all in, and all tracks must be 100% clearable with no samples or other fees to pay. Songs that are registered will be eligible for royalties.
