Call for applications: PlySpace artist residencies in the US
The Muncie Arts and Culture Council in Indiana, US, is accepting applications for its international artist residency programme, PlySpace.
The programme serves as a platform for experimentation and provocation by catalysing conversation and collaboration between artists and the local community.
PlySpace offers two types of residencies:
PlySpace Residents: This residency pairs successful applicants with a community collaborator based on their personal and collaborative project proposals and interests. Residents are expected to complete a public talk about their work and complete a project in partnership with their community collaborator.
Resident artists will receive the following:
- Living quarters, studio amenities and full access to the PlySpace studio spaces.
- Limited access to the School of Art (SOA) facilities at Ball State University.
- A $500 travel stipend and a $500 food stipend.
Resident must plan for a four- to 12-week residency stay.
PlySpace Resident Fellows: This residency pairs successful applicants with SOA as their community collaborator. They will be expected to conduct multiple public programmes connected to their practice through their partnership with SOA.
Resident fellows will receive the following:
- Have access to the SOA facilities necessary to complete their projects as well as the PlySpace studio spaces.
- A $1 500 stipend provided by PlySpace to be used for travel and living expenses and up to $1 000 in funding toward their proposed collaborative project and supplies.
Resident Fellows must plan a nine- to 12-week residency stay.
All stipends will be paid half at the start of the residency and half at the end of the residency. Residents must complete the entire residency term to receive the stipend.
Eligibility
PlySpace offers both emerging and established visual artists, writers, performers, designers and other creative individuals time and space to investigate and pursue their practices. Preference will be given to applicants who live and work outside of Delaware County, Indiana.
Interested applicants should:
- Be dedicated practitioners in their field and able to work safely and independently for the entire residency period to which they are assigned.
- Not be enrolled in a degree-granting programme at the time of application and must be over 21 years of age.

- PlySpace encourages artists and creatives of all backgrounds to apply for admission. It does not discriminate in its programmes and activities against anyone based on race, creed, colour, religion, national origin, gender, age, sexual orientation, marital status, ancestry, disability, HIV status or veteran status.
- Internationals artists must be able to communicate in English with enough fluency to complete their collaborative community projects. International applicants must make their own travel plans to and from Muncie, Indiana, and obtain all necessary visas and travel documentation as required by their home country and the US.

Deadlines
- Spring 2022 residency: Begins early February 2022 and continues through May 2022 with an optional length of stay between four and 12 weeks. The application deadline is 1 July 2021.
- Summer 2022 residency: Begins in May and continues through August 2022 with an optional length of stay between four and 12 weeks. The application deadline is 1 November 2021.
