Call for applications: Free vocal training programme
Nam Radio in Windhoek, Namibia, has partnered with music streaming service Mdundo and global song contest the Djooky Music Awards (DMAs) to launch the Vocals QuickFix Africa project – a free vocal training programme for African artists who wish to develop their skills and push their music careers forward.
Vocals QuickFix Africa is part of Nam Radio’s artist development platform, Talent Showcase Africa (TSA), which seeks to provide essential training to equip artists with the skills and knowledge to forge lasting careers.
TSA was launched in 2019 to give singers a strong voice and make it easier for producers to work with musicians, reducing the amount of time and money spent on recording sessions. The most recent artist to successfully complete the programme is Japhy Ross from Tanzania.
Selected artists will get 10 hours of free training with Tanzanian voice coach and author Tony Joett, who has worked with well-known Tanzanian artists such as Vanessa Mdee, Mimi Mars, Ben Pol, Grace Matata, Nandy and Lulu Diva.
“When it comes to singing, Africa has got more talent than you can ever begin to imagine,” Joett told Music In Africa. “But the problem is that the majority of mainstream artists on the continent are untrained singers. Thanks to auto-tune, many of them have been able to build successful careers regardless of their inability to hold a simple note.”
Djooky co-founder and CEO Andrew Dakhovskyy said: “We’re very excited to be working with Mdundo, TSA and the very talented vocal coach Tony Joett. We hope that this initiative will bring fresh new talent to the Djooky platform and help aspiring artists further develop their skills and push their musical careers forward.”
Note:
- The training will be conducted online via Skype, Zoom, Google Meet and/or WhatsApp call.
- After the training, participants will either rerecord an existing song or compose a new one.
- All songs will be entered into this year’s DMAs and get free promotion on Nam Radio as well as Mdundo to help grow the artists’ fanbase and votes.
Interested artists should send a sample of their music in MP3 format for evaluation to joett@talentshowcaseafrica.com.
