Call for scores: Choral Music Composition Contest in Spain
The Sant Yago University Choir in Spain is calling on composers from all over the world to submit scores for the third edition of its Choral Music Composition Contest.
The competition is open to composers of any nationality and age.
Compositions
- Entry compositions must be original and unpublished. Harmonisations and arrangements should be excluded.
- Compositions must be at a technical level that makes their performance possible by an amateur choir, and will have a maximum duration of five minutes.
- Entries must be written for a regular mixed choir SATB a cappella with a reasonable use of divisi.
- Composers will be responsible for the free use of the texts, and in any case they must respect the authorship rights stipulated in the Spanish Royal Legislative Decree 1/1996 of 12 April on Intellectual Property. The head of the score will include only the title of the piece and a pseudonym of the author.
- The theme should be related to hope, a positive message that represents the beginning of a new stage and the end of the complicated months.
- The text should be written preferably in Valencian, Spanish, Latin or English.
Awards
Best composition
- A monetary prize of €300 (about $370).
- The premiere of the winning piece.
- Sant Yago University Choir will promote the winning piece, which will include the following subtitle on the cover of the final score, as well as at the header or footer of all pages thereof: Winning piece of the 3rd Choral Music Composition Competition Sant Yago University Choir.
Best composition written in Valencian Language
- A monetary prize of €100.
- The premiere of the winning piece.
- Sant Yago University Choir will promote the winning piece, which will include the following subtitle on the cover of the final score, as well as at the header or footer of all pages thereof: Winning piece of the 3rd Choral Music Composition Competition Sant Yago University Choir.
Note: The awards are compatible with each other.
Submission
- Composers are entitled to submit an unlimited number of unpublished pieces not previously performed in public.
- Entries must be sent via email at concurso@corosantyago.org with the following in the subject line: Participación 3º Concurso Composición CoralB.
- The email should include the score in clear spelling as a PDF file and an audio file in MIDI or MP3.
- To guarantee the necessary impartiality and transparency, no type of personal data should be included in the body of the email.
- Participants will submit only one piece per email, though they can send as many works they want to present.
- The organisation will answer the emails within a period of 72 hours in order to confirm the correct reception thereof.
