SA: Cassper Nyovest shares Sweet and Short 2.0 album
South African hip hop artist Cassper Nyovest has released his sixth studio album Sweet and Short 2.0. The 10-track offering is now available for download and streaming across major digital platforms.
The project is a sequel to his fourth album Sweet and Short (2018), and follows his 2020 collection A.M.N (Any Minute Now), which was released less than a year ago.
The new body of work was led by singles ‘Angisho Guys’, ‘Ama Number Ayi 10’ and more recently ‘Siyathandana’, which features a video executively produced and directed by the musician. The album guests several artists including Lady Du, Abidoza, Boohle, Semmi Tee, Samthing Soweto, and Reece Madlisa & Zuma.
On Sweet and Short 2.0, Cassper Nyovest explores themes such as spirituality, parenthood, love and having fun, continuing the footsteps of A.M.N (Any Minute Now). His latest album includes songs such as gospel-infused ‘Piano Prayer’ and the opening track ‘Khotso’, a dedication to his son.
Sonically, the sequel is stylistically influenced by its predecessor, blending hip hop and the dominant amapiano. It offers the listener an engrossing listen characterised by horns and barreling basslines, rattling percussions, and melodic singing.
Ahead of the album’s release, Cassper Nyovest hosted a promotional campaign with a virtual activation and listening session, garnering more than 10 000 pre-adds across all digital platforms.
