Call for applications: Goethe-Institut Project Space fund 2022
South African artists are invited to submit applications for the 2022 Goethe-Institut Project Space (GPS) fund.
GPS is a multidisciplinary roving project space designed to support work realised all over the country – ranging from workshops to exhibitions, events and performances, including music, dance, visual art, literature, film and theatre projects.
Requirements
All necessary materials and information will be asked for in the application form. The materials necessary for this include:
- A detailed project description (maximum of 1 000 words).
- A rough timeline and promotion strategy.
- Biographies of all involved parties and supporting material of past work.
- Letters of acknowledgement from all artists, collaborators and spaces involved with the project, stating their awareness of the project, the application and their commitment to support the project.
- A filled-out and signed declaration form, which can be download here.
- A financial cover plan outlining the estimated costs of the artist’s project (a template excel sheet can be downloaded here).
Conditions to apply
- Only projects of a non-commercial nature will be considered.
- Goethe-Institut offers financial support for chosen projects to the maximum amount of R70 000. Should the budget exceed this amount, the artist/project team should seek further support – information of which should be included in the budget plan for this application form.
- The profile of the space must be such that the realisation of proposed project is viable.
- A signed letter of commitment from the space is essential.
- Only one project proposal per artist will be considered by the jury.
Criteria of proposals
- The project application has met the deadline and documentation is complete.
- Realisation plan, budget outline and partner organisation/infrastructure are realistic for achieving the aims of the project.
- A budget plan with mention of partners for additional support is included, in the case that a project’s budget exceeds the GPS total budget per project of R70 000. This is particularly important with large/ambitious projects, where eventual realisation may seem unlikely with inadequate funding.
- The work is appropriate for the space and audience of the space and reflects what the artist/project leader is aiming to achieve.
- The project is feasible within the time period.
- The proposed space has an established record, operating for at least one year and professionalism-evident.
Application
Six projects will be supported with R70 000 each and interested artists should apply here.
The application deadline is 16 August.
If, for any reason, artists are unable or unwilling to fill out the online application, they may also download the form here and send it with all necessary supporting materials directly to gpsapplications@goethe.de or via physical mail to:
