Zim: Shoko Festival 2021 date revealed
This year’s edition of the Shoko Festival in Zimbabwe will be broadcast virtually on Facebook and YouTube from 20 to 25 September.
Now in its 11th iteration, the event will run under the theme, Shoko Universe, and will feature a number of activities that are yet to be announced.
“As an answer to the times we are living in, this year we will invite the audience to dive into the completely virtual Shoko Universe,” Shoko Festival director Comrade Fatso said. “We will take you on a riveting journey riding on our collective imaginations through gritty urban culture, explosive music, crazy sets, never-seen-before collaborations and a celebration of the impossible.”
Shoko Festival coordinator Kim Kute said: “As Shoko Festival, we pride ourselves in being a dynamic space for freedom of expression, urban culture and positive social change. We continue to challenge ourselves in terms of how we will deliver the festival and we promise to surprise and inspire the audience. So we invite the audience to come and enter the Shoko Universe. Let’s begin the journey.”
Shoko Festival is among Zimbabwe’s most popular and longest-running urban culture festivals. Over the years, it has provided a platform for musicians, comedians and spoken-word artists. The festival also hosts free conferences, workshops and panels, and aims to give upcoming artists working in different urban genres an opportunity to perform and increase their fan base.
The event has featured local acts like Winky D, Holy Ten and the late Chiwoniso Maraire. South African artists like Cassper Nyovest, AKA and Tony Rebel have also participated in the festival.
