Amarayoni

Bio

Amarayoni have become one of South Africa’s finest Mbube vocal groups over the past 20 years. The group’s music is strongly influenced by the “Is’cathamiya style” which is the south African traditional acapella, but Amarayoni also achieve their special unique sound by adding in plenty of township vibes, along with some “Bandit” music and their strong Gospel and Jazz influence.
The group’s name, “Amarayoni”, is a slang version of “Ama-Lion”, which is derived from the word “Amabhubesi” which is the Zulu word for “Lion”.

Amarayoni have been charming audiences around South Africa and around the World for the past 20 years, performing in South America , State of Kuwait and also in the African Continent in Benin and Swaziland just to name a few. The 3 Albums have taken the group to far larger audiences due to its steady sales and the popularity of songs like ‘Thembalami’, Imali Yami, Lizzy and ‘Voet Sek, Go once’.
