Fugees to play in Nigeria and Ghana as part of reunion world tour
Fugees will play in Nigeria and Ghana later this year as part of a reunion world tour in honour of the 25th anniversary of their acclaimed sophomore album The Score.
Comprising Ms Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel, the Fugees released The Score in 1996 following 1994’s Blunted on Reality. The collection featured popular singles like ‘Ready or Not’ and ‘Killing Me Softly’.
The Score, which is also the group’s last album, has sold more than 22 million copies worldwide and won the group two Grammy awards.
The tour will be the first time in 15 years that the group is reforming to perform together after they reunited in 2005 for the single ‘Take It Easy’. The Fugees spilt up in 2006.
The tour is organised by Diaspora Calling and will see the Fugees make stops in 15 cities, including New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Paris and London. The shows will be integrated with a film concept that portrays the trio’s evolution over the decades.
While the Nigeria date is yet to be confirmed, the trio is scheduled to perform in Ghana on 18 December.
“The Fugees have a complex but impactful history,” Hill said. “I decided to honour this significant project, its anniversary and the fans who appreciated the music by creating a peaceful platform where we could unite, perform the music we loved and set an example of reconciliation for the world.”
Jean added: “As I celebrate 25 years with the Fugees, my first memory was that we vowed, from the gate, we would not just do music, we would be a movement. We would be a voice for the unheard, and in these challenging times, I am grateful once again that God has brought us together.”
