Busiswa

Busiswa rose to prominence in 2012 after collaborating with DJ Zinhle on the global smash My Name Is. Since then, she has collaborated with both African and American musicians to elevate her musical voice, which incorporates poetry with energizing beats. As a consequence, she has received several honors from all over the world, has two music albums to her credit, and has appeared in the feature film "Busiswa," which is based on her life. 

Reading and writing became a firm love for the young Busiswa throughout her primary school years, which led to her interest in poetry - a talent she followed for a decade, performing her newly discovered skill at different poetry sessions, festivals, corporate and charity events. Trying to make a name for myself in the entertainment world.

In 2010, Busiswa experimented with mixing spoken word with dance music, recording with house music producers Sir Bubzin and DJ Clap, who introduced her to Oscar "Oskido" Mdlongwa, a prominent music director and legend.

In 2012, Busiswa was called to the Kalawa Jazmee recording facilities by indie label Kalawa Jazmee to give her vocals to DJ inhle's track My Name Is. Her diverse ability to combine her mother tongue, Xhosa – which includes a lot of clicks – with rhythm while complementing it with the English language resulted in a distinct sound that listeners loved. The track was an instant smash throughout the world, establishing Busiswa's powerful voice as a rising vocalist with the potential to quickly catapult the international music industry.

That year, she secured a recording contract with the company, and her popularity rose as a result of her music tours around Africa, including Angola, Botswana, Namibia, Lesotho, Nigeria, Kenya, Malawi, Algeria, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe.

In less than two years, the vocalist in her early twenties won six prizes and topped radio and television charts. Uhuru, Heavy K, Professor, Maphorisa, Oskido, Vetkuk & Mahoota, DJ Tira, Rudeboyz, and Distruction Boyz were among the musicians with whom she collaborated. She has also charted with a number of songs, including Lahla, Ngoku, Visa, Naughty Boy, Nangu, and others, and has worked with a number of singers, including D' Banj, Tumi and the Volume, Oliver Mtukudzi, Heavy K, Victor Pedro and others.

In 2018,  Busiswa's track Gobisiqolo was used in the billion-dollar-grossing Marvel Studios movie Black Panther,  propelling her music beyond the continent. In the same year, she co-wrote the hit track Banomoya with TNS and DJ Prince Kaybee, which features an irresistible beat. The festive season smash, which topped the charts over the 2018 holiday season, has since transcended borders and topped radio charts across South Africa on December 31, 2018, as the New Year began. Busiswa made news in July 2019 for her collaboration with American singer Beyonce Knowles Carter on the song My Power from The Lion King: The Gift soundtrack. Yemi Alade and Moonchild Sanelly were among the other prominent African musicians featured in the song.
