David Muriithi

Bio

Creative entrepreneur, realtor, talent and event manager, music promoter and DJ, David Muriithi is the Managing Director of Creative Enterprise Centre, a regional capacity building centre whose main focus is formulating and implementing various capacity building strategies that enhance professionalism within the creative industry in the region.

David, a retired auditor, holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics (Accounting & Finance Option) from the University of Manchester. His love and knowledge of music is renowned, and is made manifest through his alter ego, the very popular DJ D-Lite. David is a regular commentator and is always present in regional and global conversations about the Creative Economy, and has been facilitator and trainer for local and regional creative enterprise capacity building initiatives. He is consulted widely across the continent on matters connected with trade and industry in creativity and creative products. A champion of private-public sector partnerships, David has also been contracted by both Government and various NGOs to help them address long term sustainability issues. He also sits as a board member on The Kenya Copyright Board.

Along with 2 other partners, he set up Audio Vault Ltd a decade ago which became the region’s leading Entertainment company at the time encompassing an independent record label, an event and talent management agency and a sound consultancy division. He is also the regional agent of South Africa’s Afro-Jazz Legend Hugh Masekela. He also had a stint at a popular radio 98.4 Capital FM, where he used to present “The Golden Sunday” show which offered the best of the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s to an array of fans.

Among David’s varied interests include intellectual property rights, business planning and financial management, audience building for the African creative economy, promotion of diverse and unusual partnerships, and training and teaching a new class of creative entrepreneurs. And from 2009, he has been instrumental in the British Council Creative Entrepreneur Program, working in Kenya, Tanzania, Nigeria and Sierra Leone as a trainer and curriculum developer as well as running his own capacity building initiative the “Creative Enterprise Centre”.
