Shazam unveils new concert discovery tool
Apple-owned music and media identification service Shazam has added a new concert discovery feature to its platform.
Apple says the tool will help increase exposure for artists. It will use concert data from Bandsintown, an event recommendation platform boasting more than 68 million fans and over 500 000 artists, as well as managers, labels and booking agents.
The new concert pages are available on iOS and Android, as well as Shazam’s official website. Musicians can now upload information about their concerts and tours using Bandsintown for Artists.
“Shazam has a long history of innovation in music discovery and connecting artists and fans,” Apple Music and Beats vice-president Oliver Schusser said. “With the re-emergence of live music, we’re excited to give Shazam users access to concerts and bring even more discoverability to artists.”
Bandsintown managing partner Fabrice Sergent said: “As live music returns, we’re on a mission to help artists get more visibility for their shows. “Pent-up demand from fans eager to go back to concerts is being met by an unprecedented level of live shows from artists on tour.”
Users can find information about concerts and tickets by searching for a song in the Shazam app or on the Shazam website, while interested subscribers can create a Shazam Artist page to add events to their calendar.
Created by the London-based Shazam Entertainment, the platform was acquired by Apple in 2018. It now has more than 200 million monthly active users, with over 1 billion song recognitions every month.
