CKay heading to North America and Europe with debut album Sad Romance
Nigerian Afrobeats act CKay will embark on a tour of multiple cities in the US, Canada and Europe in support of his debut album Sad Romance, which is due for release this month.
The self-defined ‘emo Afrobeat’ musician and producer will kick off the 22-city tour in Oakland, California, on 1 October, and round things up across the pond in London on 20 November. Other stops will include Toronto, Brussels, Copenhagen, Cologne and Paris.
Signed to Warner Music Africa, CKay shot to international stardom last year following the global chart-topping success of his 2019 single ‘Love Nwantiti’. The song, which debuted on the Billboard Global 200 chart, made him the first Nigerian to reach 1 billion streams on Spotify. It was also Shazam’s longest-running global No 1 song of 2021.
The impact of the song, together with subsequent releases like ‘Emiliana’, ‘Watawi’ and 'You', has heightened anticipation around his upcoming studio album.
Discussing the album with Guardian Life Magazine last year, Ckay said: “I feel like I’ve given fans enough EPs, so it’s time to give them a proper body of work,” adding that the collection “is going to be amazing.”
