Australian singer-songwriter Ziggy Alberts to tour SA
Australian singer-songwriter Ziggy Alberts will perform at South African venues the Barnyard Theatre in Durban, Prison Break Market in Johannesburg and Café Roux in Cape Town on 12, 15 and 16 October, respectively.
His Rewind Tour comes ahead of his upcoming sixth studio album Dancing in the Dark on 4 November. The record is driven by real-time releases, including singles such as ‘I Believe’, ‘Tattoos’ and ‘Campfire’.
“I seek to connect with long-time listeners who have been waiting perhaps close to a decade for me to come to play,” Alberts told Music In Africa. “I really look forward to connecting with people who have supported me over the years but have never had the chance to see me play live. It’s going to be an all-acoustic set and I'm going to try and play as many bangers as possible, plus a couple of new songs off my upcoming album Dancing in the Dark.”
He added: “This is actually my first time visiting and playing South Africa. I haven’t been on the continent at all, and I’m shocked to be going on such short notice. We’ve had great radio support over the last couple of years and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed all of the interviews I’ve done, so I’m just really looking forward to being there.”
The 28-year-old Alberts’ sound has drawn comparisons to Ben Howard and Jack Johnson. Like his contemporaries, Alberts writes about his personal experiences, but his music is layered with references to the natural world, the human experience and the wider planet.
His sound is laid back, soulful and folk-tinged. He has toured 11 European countries as part of the Tell Me European Tour, including festival performances in France (Fête de la Musique), the Netherlands (Mundial Festival and Surfana Festival) and Germany (Bochum Total).
Apart from Dancing in the Dark, his other projects include Made of Water, Land & Sea and Laps Around the Sun, among others. This year, Alberts was awarded an Australasian Performing Right Association Music Award for his track ‘Letting Go’. He also earned an Australian Recording Industry Association double platinum certification for Laps Around the Sun.
Tickets to the three concerts can be purchased here.
