Ugandan producer out of ICU
Ugandan producer Dan Mukisa, who is popularly known as Danz Kumapeesa, has been taken out of ICU at a Kampala hospital following an attack that left him in critical condition.
“We thank God that Kumapeesa is out of ICU," Mukisa's best friend, Geoffrey Nkwanga, told Music In Africa. "Although he can neither sit nor speak he is no longer being fed using tubes but rather spoons. He is yet to regain his memory after sustaining head injuries during the attack.”
In June, Ugandan radio personality Andrew Kyamagero organised a car wash to raise money to cover Mukisa’s medical bills. The car wash attracted a host of local celebrities and supporters.
“We appreciate everyone that came to support our brother,” Nkwanga, who is known as Dokta Brain, said. “We managed to raise $2 132 out of the accumulated bill, which stands at $7 000. The family has sold almost all their valuables to try and keep their son in hospital. It is sad that the industry that was so proud of him is not able to raise enough funds for him.”
In June, three people were arrested under the suspicion that they had sneaked poisoned food into Mukisa’s room. Local police have not provided farther information regarding the matter. Meanwhile, security is still tight at Nsambya Hospital where Mukisa is being treated.
A producer at Jah Live Films, Kumapeesa was attacked two months ago at his home in Kampala by assailants believed to be members of the Kifeesi Goons, a notorious gang that has been terrorising residents in the Ugandan capital
Mukisa has done production services bestselling Ugandan artists such as Bebe Cool, Winnie Nwagi, Irene Ntale, Fille and Eddy Kenzo.
