CKay to headline Blankets and Wine Nairobi
After a three-year break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Kenyan music festival Blankets & Wine is set to make its return at Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi on 21 December.
The festival will feature musical acts from across Africa, including Afrobeats headliner CKay (Nigeria) as well as amapiano star Musa Keys (South Africa) and Sauti Sol member Savara (Kenya).
“We have really been through the wringer together as a people, and now we are on the other side,” Blankets & Wine founder and musician Muthoni Drummer Queen. “It’s time to have a good time together. We all deserve joy, and Blankets & Wine is here to facilitate it.”
Other Kenyan performers on the bill include R&B artists Wendy Kay, Ethan Muziki and TheOnlyRosa, fusion band Watendawili, hip hop artists Scar and Wangechi featuring Wakadinali, and Afro-house DJ Suraj featuring Winyo and Polaris.
Blankets & Wine was first held in 2008 as a platform for the promotion, celebration and exposure of emerging Kenyan live music. The monthly event series progressively evolved from a platform showcasing contemporary live Kenyan music into an Africa-wide, multidisciplinary platform.
Over the years, the festival has hosted live performances by top African artists including Oliver Mtukudzi (Zimbabwe), Mafikizolo (South Africa), Mzungu Kichaa (Tanzania), Maurice Kirya (Uganda), Mi Casa (South Africa) as well as celebrated Kenyan acts such as Sauti Sol, Eric Wainaina, Harry Kimani and Nyota Ndogo, among many others.
