Here are the artists who topped Boomplay Nigeria in 2022
Boomplay Nigeria has announced Afrobeats star Burna Boy as its most-streamed male artist of 2022.
The announcement, made via the digital service provider’s Recap report, arrives on the heels of a similar revelation by Spotify Nigeria, whose year-end report also concluded that the singer ended 2022 as the country’s most streamed artist.
The Grammy winner is trailed by Asake and Kizz Daniel on Boomplay, and the figures reflect a 248% increase in streaming on Boomplay for the year, buoyed by the platform’s 88 million monthly active users and catalogue numbering more than 90 million songs.
The trio also occupy Boomplay Nigeria’s Most Streamed Albums of 2022 list. Burna Boy’s sixth album Love Damini leads the pack, followed by Asake’s genre-bending debut Mr Money with the Vibe, which was released to instant commercial acclaim, and Kizz Daniel’s Barnabas, which helped the artist surpass the 300 million streams mark on Audiomack and Boomplay in July.
Kizz Daniel and Asake also make appearances in the Most Streamed Songs of 2022 list. The former’s ‘Buga’ topped the category, while Fireboy’s Asake-assisted ‘Bandana’ came in at No 3. ‘Overloading (Overdose)’ featuring Crayon, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Magixx and Boy Spyce took the No 2 spot.
Ayra Starr, Mercy Chinwo and Simi emerged as the most streamed female artists of 2022, while the Top Booming category, spotlighting the fastest-rising stars of the year, include Asake, Young Jonn and Lade.
Boomplay says it provides an accurate snapshot of music consumption in Africa by profiling and segmenting music data by country, artists and users.
