Call for scores: Finzi Academy competition in Italy
Finzi Academy in Italy is inviting composers around the world to submit scores for the first edition of its Finzi Academy Competition.
The competition is open to composers of all nationalities without age limits and is divided into two phases: eliminatory and final.
Elimination stage
- Participants must send the score of an existing chamber composition or a new creation.
- There are no specific chamber formations, all scores written for formations from duo to decimino will be accepted.
- The application must be submitted no later than 20 January via email to info@finziacademy.com.
- Published or already performed scores are allowed.
- Anonymity of scores is not required.
- The names of a maximum of 10 composers selected for the final of the competition will be announced on 30 March.
- The communication to the selected composers, and those not admitted to the final, will be sent by email to each individual candidate.
Final
The composers selected for the final must write a new composition for one of the following formations chosen by the candidate:
- Solo instrument
- Duo
- Trio
Requirements
- The compositions should range between the following instruments: violin, cello and piano.
- The duration should be between four and seven minutes.
- The finalists must send the unpublished score, with its instrumental parts, before 1 August 2023 with attached consent to the radio/television recording.
The finalists will be invited to the Teatro Il Maggiore in Verbania, Italy, for the first performance that includes:
- A day of meeting with the performers and 40 minutes of rehearsal.
- One day (the following day) with rehearsal, concert and award ceremony.
More information
- The two final days will be held in the autumn period and the dates will be announced on 30 August at the latest.
- The accommodation costs (two nights) of the candidates, excluding travel, will be borne by the organisation.
- The performers of the finalist songs will be the Trio Chimera that will bring the first three operas ranked in the concerts of the 2023-24 season in Italy, Switzerland, Hungary and Austria.

- Score of a chamber composition (in pdf or image format)
- Receipt of payment of the registration fee of €50 (see payment details in the original call link below).
The registration fee is non-refundable and each author may submit more works to the competition. In case the candidate would like to submit the application for registration with more works, he or she must add to the basic registration fee (€50) – €10 for each work added. If the score or scores are too large to send by email, applicants should use WeTransfer. The score can be either written to the computer via software or written and scanned. No particular scanning quality is required as long as it is perfectly legible.
Awards
- First prize: €2000 + diploma.
- Second prize: €1000 + diploma.
- Third prize: €500 + diploma.
