Watch Yemi Alade’s video for Pounds and Dollars

The single, featuring rapper Phyno, is off her African Baddie EP released in November 2022. It has been praised by many of Alade’s fans because of lyrics that extol the importance of hard work and a positive mindset. On the track, Yemi sings: “What’s gon be is gon be, my mama say, do the necessary and get down on your knees. What’s gon be is gon be, pray every day, do the necessary, your hustle go pay.”

The video was directed by Clarence Peters who has astutely captured and portrayed the song’s theme. ‘Pounds and Dollars’ was an instant hit, garnering more than 2 million streams just after its release in December. The visualiser followed soon thereafter with many of the singer’s fans taking to social media to express their expectations for a video.

It follows the success of the ‘African Baddie’ single, which has surpassed 7.5 million views on YouTube.
