Danyèl Waro

Danyèl Waro was born on May 10, 1955, in Le Tampon, Reunion Island.

Danyel Waro grew up without listening to maloya music like many Reunionese of his generation.

After attending a concert by Firmin Viry in 1970, Danyèl Waro fell in love with maloya music thanks to his father, a fervent communist activist. Viry later became his mentor.

Danyèl Waro began making percussion instruments by himself. The first maloya concert he performed was on December 27, 1975, with a group of young farm workers.

Some of his albums include Batarsité, Bwarouz, Monmon, and Sominnkèr, among others.
