Ghana: Amaarae shares new album Fountain Baby
Ghanaian-American singer Amaarae today announced her sophomore album, Fountain Baby. The project, released through Interscope Records, is available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms.
The collection follows 2020’s The Angel You Don’t Know, and was heralded by the singles ‘Co-Star’ and ‘Reckless and Sweet’.
Thematically, the work examines female empowerment, subversion of gender norms, female sexuality and artistic self-expression. It also listens as a unique fusion of genres, blending experimental pop with mainstream Afrobeats.
“By infusing her West African heritage with a global perspective, Amaarae presents a body of work that defies genre and regional boundaries, firmly establishing herself as an essential architect in the future of music,” a statement reads.
According to Amaarae, Fountain Baby exudes “an unstoppable surge of sex appeal, abundant blessings and undeniable swag”, adding that it serves as a “vibrant declaration to the world that I am a truly blessed child of God.”
The album was released alongside a new video for the song ‘Wasted Eyes’. Directed by Lauren Dunn, the clip celebrates self-expression.
A singer-songwriter, producer and engineer, Amaarae is behind popular singles, notably ‘Sad Girlz Luv Money’, which has amassed over 379 million global streams to date.
Meanwhile, later this month, Amaarae will perform songs from her new album on NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts, making her the first Ghanaian to appear on the series.
