SA: AKA’s family awarded plaques for Mass Country album
South African creative entertainment agency Vth Season has presented the family of the late rapper AKA with Gold and Platinum plaques in recognition of the success of his Mass Country album.

The plaques are a testament to AKA’s talent and impact on the music industry. AKA’s final studio album, Mass Country, released posthumously, demonstrates his artistry, innovative vision and lifelong dedication to music.
“Vth Season thanks the Megacy (the rapper’s fans) for embracing Mass Country and for ensuring that AKA’s memory lives on,” Vth Season’s Raphael Benza said. “Vth Season, together with the Forbes family are committed to preserving Supa Mega’s musical heritage and invite the Megacy to join them in celebrating this momentous occasion.”
Since its release, Mass Country has captivated listeners around the world, resonating with both long-time members of the Megacy and newcomers alike. Recording industry organisations have recognised Mass Country for its tremendous success by granting numerous tracks Gold and Platinum certifications.
‘Dangerous’ featuring Nadia Nakai and Blxckie, ‘Mbuzi (Freestyle)’ featuring Thato Saul and ‘Prada’ featuring Khuli Chana have all been certified Gold, while ‘Company’ featuring Nigerian record producer KDDO has been certified Platinum. Since its release in September of 2022, ‘Lemons (Lemonade)’ featuring Nasty C has been certified four times Platinum.
Born Kiernan Jarryd Forbes on 28 January 1988, AKA began his music career in high school with rap trio Entity, alongside Vice Versa and Greyhound. He later went solo, garnering success with the release of albums such as Levels (2014), Touch My Blood (2018), Bhovamania (2020) and Be Careful What You Wish For (2017).
The rapper won several accolades at the South African Music Awards, African Muzik Magazine Awards, MTV Africa Music Awards, South African Hip Hop Awards, Metro FM Music Awards, Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards and the Namibian Music Awards.
