Call for applications: VUKUBONE Sound Lab 2023 in eSwatini
Antidote Music, in partnership with the eSwatini National Council of Arts and Culture and the Antidote Culture Foundation, is inviting emerging singers, songwriters, DJs, producers, sound designers and podcasters to submit applications for the 2023 edition of VUKUBONE Sound Lab accelerator programme in eSwatini.
The VUKUBONE Sound Lab is funded by the Sound Connects Fund, an initiative by the Music In Africa Foundation and Goethe-Institut. The Sound Connects Fund is made possible with the financial contribution of the European Union and the support of the organisation of ACP States.
The VUKUBONE Sound Lab seeks to answer issues raised during the VUKUBONE Music Conference 2022, and hopes to create clear pathways to the establishment of sustainable careers in eSwatini’s creative sector.
The accelerator programme is aimed at improving the capacity and quality of eSwatini’s sound production sector through increasing the knowledge competencies of emerging eSwatini sound artists, in the areas of creative entrepreneurship, intellectual property rights, business and financial management. It also seeks to provide them with access to state-of-the-art sound production and recording facilities.
The programme will be split into two cohorts with 10 participants in each cohort. Each of the cohorts will be enrolled in a six-week programme divided into three phases, namely, trainings and masterclasses, mentorship and project development. The first cohort will be enrolled from 31 July to 16 August, while the second cohort will be enrolled from 11 to 27 September.
This programme is targeted at early stage sound artists aged between 18 to 28 years who are in need of a springboard to launch their careers further.
Interested artists should apply here before 14 July.
“We champion the representation of women in the sound production sector and therefore would like to encourage as many women as possible to apply to this opportunity,” a statement reads.
