Burna Boy to play FNB Stadium in SA on 23 September
Nigerian Afrobeats star Burna Boy will return to South Africa for a performance at FNB Stadium in Johannesburg on 23 September after his headline appearance at the DStv Delicious Festival last year.
The gig, dubbed Burna Boy Live in SA, is presented by Ternary Media Group, and is the latest among high-profile stops in the singer’s ongoing world tour, which recently saw him sell out the London Stadium in the UK and the Citi Field Stadium in America. The singer also performed at the 2023 UEFA Champions League final on 10 June in Turkey, which was witnessed by 74 000 spectators.
In a press release announcing Burna Boy’s FNB show, Ternary Music Group CEO Sedote Nwachukwu expressed his belief in the boundless talent of African artists, highlighting the Grammy winner’s groundbreaking achievements.
“This African giant’s footsteps speak for themselves and we are convinced he will be able to do the same at FNB stadium in September,” Nwachukwu said.
Burna Boy, whose Afro-fusion style blends everything from R&B, hip hop, dancehall and reggae, will perform from his extensive catalogue, which boasts a deluge of hit singles and six studio albums, the latest being the 2022 Love, Damini.
Last month, Burna Boy won BET’s Best International Act Award for a historic fourth time, having previously claimed the title in 2019, 2020 and 2021. He has also recently become the first African act to cross 1 billion streams on Audiomack.
Earlier this year, US publication Rolling Stone ranked him No 197 on its list of the 200 greatest singers of all time.
