Nigeria: Lifesize Teddy joins Mavin Records
Nigerian label Mavin Records has announced singer and rapper Lifesize Teddy as its latest signing.
The label unveiled the musician on 9 August, along with an eponymous EP, much in the fashion of other recent signees Boy Spyce and Bayanni. The project is available for streaming and download across all major digital platforms.
“Unveiling a new artist happens in accordance with the laid down process of the Mavin Academy, and is a testament of our faith in them and the coming together of our hard work,” Mavin Records boss Don Jazzy said.
The company’s chief operating officer, Peter Tega Oghenejobo, lauded Lifesize Teddy’s artistry, saying: “We’re genuinely impressed by her boundless talent, unique style and unpredictable creativity. Lifesize Teddy’s patient journey through the artist development process and her dedication to honing her craft are truly inspiring, and I can’t wait for the world to discover her abilities.”
Oghenejobo also commended Don Jazzy for his consistent dedication to supporting artists and offering them a platform to thrive. He also thanked the Mavin team for its devotion to the founder’s vision.
Lifesize Teddy, born Banigo Apiafi Treasure on Bonny Island in Rivers State, embarked on her musical journey at the young age of nine, penning her own songs. She had delved into rapping by age 12, inspired by US rapper and producer Kanye West’s College Dropout. She names Lucky Dube, Rihanna, and Brenda Fassie among her other musical role models.
About her new EP, Lifesize Teddy said: “Every single record is a reflection of me and this blessing I’ve come to share with you. It took a village to bring everything alive.”
Mavin celebrates 11 years as a record label in 2023. It boasts other notable signees including Afrobeats stars like Rema and Ayra Starr, rapper Ladipoe and singer Johnny Drille.
