Jakey Jake

Bio

Jacob Medo Bangura, widely known as Jakey Jake, is a Sierra Leonean rapper and songwriter. Born on July 13 in Calaba Town, Freetown, Jakey's early life was marked by a move to Hill Cut Road following his parents' divorce. Raised by a senior lecturer father and a businesswoman mother, he inherited a unique blend of academic rigour and entrepreneurial spirit. His musical journey began during junior secondary school, initially adopting the stage name "Lord Dre" and co-founding the Rap Hood Family group.

From 2010 to 2013, Jakey established himself as a dominant force in street and radio rap battles, catching the attention of Sierra Leonean hip-hop record producer Teteh. His signing with Catthouse Record in 2013 led to the adoption of his stage name, Jakey Jake. Despite the dissolution of Catthouse Record in 2013, Jakey navigated the industry as an independent artist, collaborating with producers like Yung Lee and Oral.

Debuting with the Whalaa in 2016, Jakey gained national recognition, and his EP God's Gift in 2018 solidified his position in the industry. The establishment of the independent label, Rap Hood Nation, reflected his commitment to nurturing upcoming artists. Known for high-profile feuds and diss tracks, Jakey's confrontations, notably against Lyrical Joe and Drizilik, stirred the hip-hop community and elevated his fame.

Awards include the SLAAM Award 2022 for his track 'Glory', along with nominations at the 2021 National Entertainment Award Sierra Leone (NEA) and New Skool Award. Jakey's rap style, characterized by wordplay and storytelling prowess, draws inspiration from local talents and international artists like Nas and MI Abaga. His active social media presence on platforms like Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, and Facebook allows fans to stay updated on his journey.

Jakey Jake stands as a beacon of Sierra Leonean hip-hop, consistently pushing genre boundaries. With his recent deal with God Star Entertainment record and ongoing projects, Jakey's influence and legacy in the music world are poised for exponential growth.
